Is my walnut tree healthy?

joe.shimminjoe.shimmin Posts: 214
I bought this walnut tree in the autumn and planted it. It came in a huge pot, so the roots should be good enough but the leaves look weak and the tree in general looks quite bare. I also had to cut off quite a few small branches which were dead when they produced no buds or leaves.
These pictures were taken yesterday.
Thanks for your advice/answers.

Ok, thanks, it’s just that all the other walnut trees I see look a lot more leafy than mine.

Ours was planted 30 years ago and, even here, is slow to come into leaf.   Yours has only just been planted and needs to spend time getting its roots down to support the top growth and will, given time, settle down and behave like its older cousins.

Patience is a key requirement for gardeners.  Make sure you give yours a generous bucketful of water at least once a week if you get a dry spell.  That will help too.  In future, wait till the end of June to remove "dead" wood.

Brilliant, thanks for the help. I’ll do as you say.
