Hi there.Planted two Roses in the garden in early May,one a tea and the other a climber.Mixed rose plus Fertilizer with both of the holes, the tea has Romped away but the climber is standing still. I water them almost every day, also some of the leaves on the climber have turn brown which i have been picking off. Any advice would be gratefully received,Thanks.

It may need time to get going. Some roses, often David Austin ones, take a year or two to settle in. Also I think it would be better to give more water less often. Except I don't know how much you are giving! But a sprinkle every day is less effective than a canful every few days.

  • Thank you for your advice, are you saying not water it every day but wait a few days and then give it a big drink?

I was ready to get rid of my David Austin climber last year. It was just like yours and barely had a flower all summer. It was a bare rooted specimen planted in early spring and very carefully nurtured. This year it looks much better and has a good crop of flowers just starting to open. It has been given a reprieve and can stay if it meets the description of being a repeat bloomer! By the way,  it's New Dawn.
  • Thanks for your comments, i will give it ago.
  • Roses repay patience...the standard advice on the Austin website is very solid https://www.davidaustinroses.com/eu/advice-and-inspiration/the-basics-of-growing-roses

  • Thanks for that i will have a look, the rose by the way is Dancing Queen.
