Help Please!

My lawn is being taken over by lovage which has just spread like crazy and is winning the war. Any ideas how I can get rid of it and get my lawn back, or do I need to do something drastic? I'm a real rookie in the garden, so apologies in advance if this is a stupid question. It's put me right off eating the stuff!!

Don’t want to seem rude, but are you sure of your ID?
Whoops!
just re-read your post ... you must be sure of the ID ‘cos you’ve been eating it.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
@Dovefromabove LOL, yes I guess I'd have felt some ill effects by now! Yep, the initial patch that I inherited when I bought the house grew incredibly tall, but eventually spread to the adjacent lawn. No mistaking that distinctive celery-like smell when you mow it down. Still despite regular mowing it's almost as if it's suffocating the grass and it's spreading fast!
Good luck with dealing with it.
