Japanese maple leaf curling at ends

Hello I’m new here and hope someone knowledgeable can please help. My mother gave me a Japanese maple 5 weeks ago and I planted it in a sunny position. It seemed fine, however we have had a wet week and now the ends of the leaves are starting to curl as if they’ve melted?!
I do love this plant so much; I can’t seem to find the cause or solution. Any ideas gratefully received, thank you.

Some acers don't like too much sun.

Ah should I move it or plant in front of it to shade it? Thanks for your message!

Is It in full sun? I had to move one that only got midday sun to dappled shade.
They also don't do well in a windy spot. I doubt the rain did it any harm.
Also, do you know whether it was kept outside before you bought it?

It was kept outside but the position I have it in sounds like it’s probably too exposed from what you say. It’s most likely got too much sun and is a little battered by the wind. I live by the coast in the north east so I think I ought to move it closer to a bit of protection from that.
Thank you that’s really helpful; I’m very grateful..
