How important is a website like this to the elderly?

For a general term, @Achtung, personally, I don’t mind ‘elderly’ or ‘senior’ members of the forum/group/society. Help the Aged obviously think Aged is ok - but that and ‘mature’ could mean like a fine wine or a smelly old lump of cheese. Given many members find this forum a lifeline, whether through loneliness, isolation, disability, learning difficulty, illness, age, lack of anyone else to share their passion or any combination of those things, I guess there is no reason to single out age at all.

I find it’s the The that is problematic when referring to any group because it both homogenises and sets ‘them’ apart. Think how objectionable it is to refer to ‘The Blacks’ or ‘The Gays’... maybe we will one day stop categorising people by age or anything at all.. we are all human, in all our wonderful diversity  :)

I don't want a label. I'm still in denial. There's this strange person in the mirror who looks like my mum. I try to ignore her but she won't go away.

Everyone hates their passport photo when the new one arrives. But I guarantee that in ten years time, when you get a new one, you'll wish you still looked like you did in the old one.

@B3. I know the feeling. My mother always appears in the mirror. If there were no such things as mirrors I would imagine I still looked like I did at 21.

Nollie, you are so right! But I don't mind being called old because I AM. There are many things I could change about me and some I SHOULD, but try as I might, I can never change my birth date so why should I be ashamed of it? Wouldn't it be great to just value people, regardless of category.

But ‘older’ is relative ... older than what/who?  That just complicates things 😉

But my mind isn't old! I'm sure allowances will need to be made for my ageing body eventually but I refuse  to be infantilised (good word -😉)

My cardio consultant said I was doing very well for my age but then marred it by adding 'old age comes to us all'!
