That looks a lovely one @AnniD with the golden tufts.

@purplerallim I saw a massive one at RHS Harlow Carr a few years ago. The sun was shining through it, it was stunning.  Couldn't persuade OH to sacrifice some more lawn though ! 😁

Stipa's flowerheads take in quite a wide radius though, although it's one of my favourites. Maybe one day I'll S. gigantea 'Goldilocks' which is supposed to be a little more compact. The OP could try Molinias etc but they won't do as well in shade as bamboo and are deciduous.

Luzula nivea would be worth a go, tolerant of shade and is evergreen.

Fargesia bamboos are well behaved and one of the most beautiful plants (my opinion) to grow.

😮 Wash your mouth out ! I will have you know that grass is very important. It's funny the way the edge of it keeps disappearing a little bit at a time though, and the flower beds get bigger......😁

    🤣
  • @willdb will thanks for taking the time to do that, very kind of you. I'm thinking maybe do a concrete block bed with like a lip for seating. My only worry is that I'm trying to do to much in quite a narrow space.

  • So last weekend, tidied up bit of bottom and spread some stones in front of patio.

Thought you might like to see garden 18months ago. The sheds where filled to the roof with rubbish, took 15 van loads to empty!

  • Trying to decide, do I stick grass down or maybe get another couple of tonne of stones, to cover the bottom area.

Sorry for lack of planting folks. All the boring stuff is getting in the way!
