My verges coordinate their ribbons of colour and form beautifully... whether thats setting off the purple aquilegias against vivid green euphorbias, pairing yellow helianthemums with white flowering thyme and a taller white airy one I don't know, or just the most enormous swathe of red poppies...
Nature gets succession planting so right too, just as one thing fades...
Lots of local authorities have replaced grass with wildflowers on verges and roundabouts now. The one i work for has. They look stunning in spring and summer. Although it was introduced initially as a cost cutting measure of course (no mowing), it also has environmental benefits.
Gardening. The cause of, and solution to, all of my problems.
I didn't mean to start a thread, I just thought that lovely picture of the Centranthus ruber was worth sharing. But I'm so glad people have kept it going. Let's see more of "nature's gardens".
Hi @josusa47, sorry no photos at the moment, the council have now cut all the verges down. Sadly it is necessary as our curvy narrow roads become so overgrown they impact on road safety. They will grow back again soon so will try and catch them before the next cut!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Enjoying the pix enormously on this thread. I've been able to walk each day since I retired a few months ago, so I've seen the nearby hedgerows changing. Wild garlic giving way to hawthorn and cow parsley, and it's been beautiful, espcially when there are bulfinches and wrens around. Wishing I'd taken my camera with me occasionally!
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I really enjoy the wild pink oxalis, violets and mustard cabbage flowers around our cabin rural property. Nandina at both sides of the cabin, which I despise for its invasive nature, at least berries nicely in the fall/winter. In late summer and fall, the east pasture is a solid field of some yellow wildflower I have yet to ID (that's not grass/lawn). At the fence corner of our yard and in front of the cabin porch is some lantana camera. I've planted a couple heat & drought tolerant red rose bushes (Knock Out), a purple Lythraceae "Twilight", a Duranta erecta "Sweet Memories" https://www.etsy.com/listing/512358876/duranta-erecta-pure-sweet-memories-shrub and a Dessert Willow tree https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/desert-willow/caring-for-desert-willow-trees.htm............but those will be a long time in maturing and I'm not sure they can improve on the above.

Can we see some pictures, @Nollie?
