Removing old fronds from Tree Fern?

Hello, my tree fern has been in the ground since last September and it had very nice fronds at the time. I protected and left the fronds on during winter because they were so healthy looking.
They still look good, but no new ones have emerged yet but as the pictures below show you can see the beginnings of some new ones starting to poke through very slowly.
I can’t bring myself to remove the old ones (up to now) but I am wondering if removing those now will accelerate the growth of the new one.
Any thoughts?
