Snowball tree

my poor viburnum has no leaves left on it due to some very small caterpillar type insects. I managed to find one well eaten green leaf with the insects on so knew it has been devastated by them!
the branches are still green so can I rescue it if so how!!

A likely candidate is the viburnum beetle
Have a look at this and see what you think

It will probably produce more leaves if you water it well, give it some general fertiliser and mulch it with compost.  You'll need to keep an eye open for any more caterpillars and remove them by hand if you see them.  You could also set up a bird feeder close to the bush, so blue tits can feed their young on any caterpillars which turn up next spring...   :)

  • Thank you that’s great advice. Will give it a try.
