Hi . Have had this acer for 20 yrs plus and it’s always been beautiful at this time of yr and full of leaves but the leaves look burnt and it’s very sparse. I’m watering it and feeding it with chicken manure pellets but don’t know what else to do . Wondering what happened and why ?

Looks like either frost, or wind damage, nothing to be done about it.
How can you lie there and think of England

In the picture I see a patio. How much soil is there around the tree, or is it fairly confined by fence and patio? I'm not an expert at all, but noticed it. If on the other side of the fence there is a patio as well then the tree may struggle for moisture and nutrients (as any tree would) - with that size of tree I'm not sure chicken pellets in a small area will help.

Storm Hannah came at the worst moment, when acer foliage was young and fragile. My acers look worse than this. Don't worry.
