Monkey puzzle tree problem

I have a problem with monkey puzzle tree. It has orangey tips on about six branches. 
When we cut them off a smoke like dust came from them when touched. The tree
is about 40 years old but we’ve never had a problem before.

    It’s not a problem ... those are the pine cones ... the  powder is simply pollen because the pine cones are like the flowers ... later the cones will contain seeds. 

    It’s not happened before because your tree was young and conditions were not right. 

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    Let them ripen and the seeds are edible. :)
