Mint leaves grow small

Hi,
I have a mint plant, when it arrived it had large and beautiful leaves. I then took a few weeks holiday and someone else took care of it- and it almost dried out entirely. I came back a month ago and I’m watering it a lot and it’s under full direct sun, and it has recovered but the leaves that grow are really small. Should I trim it? Feed it? Remove and buy a new one instead?

thanks

Mint grows really fast and can soon use up the nutrients in a container.

I’d take it out of the pot, split it in half and repot each half in a mixture of John Innes No 3 loambased compost mixed with about a third of multi-purpose compost.

Stand the pots in plant saucers and water well. Mint is one of the plants that is happy with its roots permanently damp.
Divide and repot as above every spring as the new shoots begin to emerge.

As time goes on you’ll find the central older roots are less productive so you can discard them and repot the younger portions of roots from the edges.
