Dead Conifer

harmonyharmony Posts: 403
Finally bit the bullet and started to cut down my dying/ dead conifer until I got rained off half hour after starting grrr. But ive noticed its got some ivy growing up inside of it and now its got me thinking of using it as a frame (around 5ft) and getting a variegated ivy as well and letting it scramble up or some other evergreen/flowering climber thats not too fussy about soil . Or should I just carry on and cut it back all together and replace with something else. The area is full sun until around 3pm then dappled shade and quite sheltered. What would you do?..

Dig it out and put in an amelanchier.

This is a conifer (left side of pic) I had cut down to about 7/8ft, the trunk is now covered in ivy and I love it.

It definitely looks dead 😉 .  It’s now a post. It
has no branches and the trunk is covered with ivy.

There are lots of fastigiate conifers. They are not viable if their tops are cut off and they are covered with ivy to the extent that one is.
