How do I prune such a bushy Wisteria?

Unfortunately, I pruned my wisteria last year without knowing how to do it properly, and now it’s sprouted lots of green shoots rather that a few long ones (see photo).

I now know how to prune my wisteria at the long whippy shoots (summer down to  5 buds, winter down to 2-3 buds), but I have no clue what to do with the many short sprouts?

I do want my wisteria to keep flowering (more) and growing up so advice would be appreciated!

P.s. I will be planting my wisteria in the next few weeks, it won’t remain in the pot.

All those short shoots will be long whippy shoots by July.   Plant it in the ground as it is. Tie in the most suitable shoots to a framework for the wall you will be covering. Do not cut back the ones you want to cover the wall. The first two or three years you will be concentrating on the framework. Then you cut back everything in the wrong place. Don't expect flowers for the first couple of years unless you are planning on keeping it trained as a small standard.

Here’s my baby, if you can aim for something like this. I don’t know if I’m doing it right but it looks ok.   He’s been in there for about 5 years now.

Have a read of this info from the RHS on growing wisteria and follow the links to pruning which is done in July and January.
