Asparagus

I have inherited an asparagus bed which has been established for many years. Last year we had loads, but this year we have only had a few edible spears. They are coming up but are very spindly and quickly run to seed. Is there anything I can do to help it to recover please or could it be too old and need replacing?

many thanks

I always give a good mulch of well rotted manure in winter and water well now  while this dry spell continues, and a feed of chicken pellets.

    Keep watering, they need lots.
