Something strange hanging from Camillia

Hi. I wonder if anyone has seen anything like this before (pictures 
attached)? It’s hanging from the end of a stem on my in-laws camellia and looks like it’s come from a flower that’s gone over. Whether it’s a type of seed pod or fungi we’re not sure and a google search hasn’t come up with any images like it. I’ve attached a picture. Thanks for any help anyone can give to our mystery!
