Different colour flowering spikes on lupin plant.

Hello, I planted a basic purple lupin last year and it’s very happy. This year it has more than doubled in size and has lots of flowering spikes.. My question is, is it usual
to have different coloured flowers on the same plant?

    Maybe there were two seeds in the pot when you bought it.

    That's really lovely. I wish I could succeed with lupins. The slugs and snails always get mine.

    I think Lyn is right - either two seeds in the pot originally, or a self-sown seedling from last year has come up close to the original plant.  There's sometimes some colour change as flowers age, but not that much.
    Both colours look good to me, but if you don't like the new one, see if you can cut or pull it out down at the base without disturbing the main plant.

    I’ve been having a google and found this on bakker.com: ' As the flowers in a group of Lupins are often of different colours and can even vary on one spike, it is easy to create some fantastic effects.'

    So it looks like I’ve got 1 plant with 3 different colour flowering spikes! I like Lupins even more now 😁
