Unknown tiny tree needs help

anyone know what these are, got from a market last year an they are not good. The green has just come back which tells me it's still a little life left, the root system looks small maybe a 3rd the size of the plant. I wanna repot bigger with lots of drainage an maybe some limestone on top or in soil. Prune the dead leaves an hope for the best. Not knowing what this plant is though is holding me back as wanna save it not kill it. Please help if you can.

  • Thank you, I thought a box. But haven't really had a garden for 15 years, the knowledge I have is from being a old man's helper as a child . Where I live is surrounded by trees so it will only ever get partial sun or late evening sun during summer. I removed the plant from the pot an it has white fluff  on the roots, I guess that's rot. Also not to sure on blite an if rot can cause it. Any more advice on these things would be appreciated better drainage is needed an for some reason I'm thinking alkaline soil is prefered. But im unsure on this

Have a read of this and follow links to box blight and so on - https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=88

If you do have healthy stems, you can take cuttings form them quite easily and thus either save the plant or increase the stock.

  • Thanks this extra knowledge should be enough, to either save or plant new. I remember my grandad having the most beautiful hedge around his home made bowling green. I'm sure it was this same plant. I would like it to flourish I'm my garden too. Although potted now I hope cuttings from it will thrive
