Sudden Weed infestation

I've nurtured my lawn for the past 15 years and controlled the weeds with granule fertiliser and weedkiller for a beautiful carpet like spread.

This year, out of the blue, the weed below has attacked and invaded and is wrecking my pride and joy.  Besides being on the lawn it has managed to break through the anti-weed membrane and 4-5 inches of stone under the deck.  Now growing out between the decking boards.

Used: evergreen lawn fertiliser as before.
SBK that shows some body blows only for it to resurface.
Weedol

Desperately seeking some advice to eradicate this.

Ah creeping thistle I think. Is that a fence I see? You'll have to remove it from both sides of the fence for any remedy to work as it spreads by roots. I find that roundup takes it, a quick squirt onto the middle of the rosette. it may need redoing if it decides to grow back. constantly pulling the green off will also work but it will take a year or more. Digging it out is futile unless it's in an open border or veg patch, the roots are very deep and spread everywhere. But whatever method you use it won't work if you can't get to the entire plant not just part of it. It also freely self seeds so don't let it set seed!

Thank you Skandi.  I've just put some Roundup gel on tonight, but will tackle this with more vigorously.  Need to get to the ones outside (picture).
