Some just do that - look at alba luxurians - http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=561 and its pal caerulea - http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=564

What variety is yours and does it usually have all purple tepals or is this your first year with flowers?

Thank you. It is 'Arabella' it has flowered before but it didn't have any green on it.

Curious then.  I had one in my last garden which was a paler mauve and didn't have green bits, like this - http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=110

Maybe it's a response to some unseasonable cold weather or a mineral deficiency.  Try giving it a liquid feed of tomato food or a comfrey tea and some slow release clematis food and see if that sorts it out.
