Cornus problems

I planted a cornus in Spring of 2018, and it seemed to be doing well - but now the leaves are turning brown and I don't know why !

    What type of cornus?  Is it up against a wall and dry at the roots?

    It is planted in amongst other shrubs in a border. I have forgotten the actual name of it.
