Brown rot?

We have just moved into a house with a very mature garden and lots of fruit trees however one end of the garden seems to be badly affected by brown rot:
I'm very new to gardening so i'm not even sure if it is brown rot or something else. From what i have read treatment should be carried out while the tree is flowering? Is there anything that can done now?
