We have FEWER molluscs leading to LESS damage on the plants.
    There speaks the pedant.

A true pedant might suggest the correct use is 'less gastropods' but I wouldn't know about that sort of thing :#

Fewer gastropods WE!! If you can count them it's FEWER, if it's an amorphous mass or a concept or a situation it's LESS.  eg, less cloudy, fewer clouds;  less crowded, fewer people; less slug damage, fewer gastropods.........

Fewer slugs implies that they're not an infinite plague though.

I am agreeing with you DampGardenMan, less rain, less slimy gastropods,  we do have more hedgehogs this year, but according to some reports I have read, they don't eat them anyway.  So I will put it down to less rain for now.

Less rain, fewer gastropods, more rain, more gastropods. So why isn't there a different "more" for enumerable items, hmmm? :)

Fortunately we all know what everybody means ...

Anyone care for a sortie into a number or an amount of the blighters?

Can’t say we have fewer snails this year but, like Obelixx, I launch them across the road and into the hedgerow.

I’m tempted by one of these

  • We were only saying the other day how we haven’t seen as many slugs. Our neighbour said that they didn’t fair very well in last years hot weather.
