Marking plants to do something with them later.
Here's an idea which I'm sure is not new, but it's new to me so I'm passing it on in case it's helpful to someone else.
Sometimes when a plant appears that I haven't planted, or seed mixtures grow and flower, I think, I like that, but not there. When it's finished flowering I'll move it, or save seed. Especially since I planted my rainbow border, which is zoned by flower colour. And when it's finished flowering and the foliage starts to wilt, I can no longer identify which plant it was.
My mum and I are avid knitters and have a suitcase full of leftover wool. So I've sorted out all the colours that are anything like flowery, and wound off a small ball of each and put them in my gardening toolbag. When I come across one of those out-of-place plants, I cut off a scrap of wool in the nearest colour and tie it round the base of the plant. So later on I will know what to move and where to move it to.
And yes, fellow grammar pedants, I do know that a preposition is a word you should never end a sentence with.

As for the last sentence, I have no idea what you’re talking about. 😀
