I have an old, very big apple tree which I have been told is a Newton Wonder on my allotment. It's been very productive over the 7 years I've had it but last year it got a bit of what I think is powdery mildew. I cut the affected branches out but this year there is much more affected and the whole tree is looking a bit unhealthy. What can I do to save this lovely old tree?

For the last couple of years my apples have had woolly aphids. Might it be that?
Have a look at the photo about 1/2 way down on this page
