Please identify! Japanese knotweed....?

Hi, we just moved into a new house. We have lots of weeds, which is fine but this plant is concerning me. I have pulled some of it up, but it has so many roots, like bindweed would 🙄 Please help!

It's Houttuynia. Not Japanese knotweed. It can be quite invasive - having seen my Dad's one run rampant I would not grow it myself - but it's still a popular garden plant and not the dreaded JK.

    I don't think so.
It does look like houttuynia (the Chameleon plant)

  • You have made my day, thanks so so much to you knowledgeable people!!
  • Houtuynia I believe is in the same family as Japanese knot weed but not reported to be so horrific.

I used to have a patch of it a few years ago but it vanished.
As I recall, the leaves smell of tangerines.
