I agree with Lyn;  If the local night temperature is forecast to drop below about 6 or 7C, then you could drape fleece over them each evening and remove each morning, but it's a bit late now and I think the damage has already been done to the young growth.  However, they should survive without much further damage, although growth will be limited for a while as they will have been 'checked' by the cold shock - even an unheated room inside a house is usually about 12 to 15C at night, so down to 5 is a lot in one go.  Give them a few weeks and if new growth doesn't appear then that will be the time to worry.  I wouldn't risk shocking the roots by re-potting or changing soil etc. at this point, as that may be "the straw that breaks the camel's back"! ;)
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • My hydrangea is growing new leaves which are very strange. They’re white with splashes of pale lemon and blush pink. They aren’t leaves that have changed from green - they have opened like this. The rest of the shrub and the rest of my hydrangeas are all perfectly normal with lots of green growth and plenty of flowers developing. They are all on the same stem though. Shall I cut it out at ground level or is it safe to leave it so that I can watch them to see what develops?
