It may be a Viburnum or a Cornus (commonly called dogwood).
There are various types with different coloured bark.
Does it get white berries?
I am leaning towards Cornus but stand to be corrected.
They are both usually grown or known as shrubs but can take on small tree like proportions.
If it has white berries them maybe Cornus sibirica alba.

if it has black berries then probably Cornus sanguinea.
