Summer Fruiting raspberries

HI, I have bought for the first time a small summer fruiting raspberry plant - it's about 10-12 inches tall.  I have it planted in a good place, but I have just read that they fruit in June and July, so should I expect any fruit this summer, or do I just let it put on some growth, prune it down in the autumn and wait until next year?  Thanks

    It should have flowers on it if it's going to fruit this year. If not I wouldn't cut it down, it will fruit on those canes next year.

    No it doesnt have flowers, it's really weeny.  I will leave it to grow into itself. Thank you.

    Those types fruit on canes which grew the year before, so it's unlikely to flower and fruit this year, meaning no pruning at all is required until it has finished fruiting next year.  At that time, cut only those canes which have produced fruit right down to the ground, leaving all non-fruiting canes alone (these will produce fruit the following year.)  Nice and easy.  :)
