Disappointed

Very disappointing to notice GW on sale in supermarket including several packets of seeds, gardening gloves + 2-1 booklet for garden visits. My loyal monthly magazine subscription for many years only includes 2-1 garden entry booklet? Not good. Will review my subscription.

I think you’ll find that what you’ve seen is a promotional ‘special edition’ .., more expensive than the usual non-subscription monthly magazine and available at limited outlets.

However I’ll flag this up to @Daniel Haynes in case I’ve got it wrong in any respect.

Might it be to do with postage charges?
Especially these days, the magazine with seeds on must be nearing the 5 mm thickness allowance, let alone a pair of gloves...even if they ironed them.

I don't subscribe to any magazines and have not done for a good few years now. I have a good selection of old and new gardening books in my library and with the internet and garden forums I find I have all the answers I ever need. 🐖

They could take out 14 or 15 of the spam flyers though instead, I wouldn't mind :)

Don't be silly WE - those are paid for and the fees subsidise the magazine.

If you want the freebies, don't subscribe.  Posted copies never include the freebies cos of P&P costs and restrictions.

I think it is a very reasonable complaint for all of the magazines that do this. Nowhere on, for example, the GW magazine subscription page does it mention that you are getting a different product to the news stand edition. All that is mentioned is the 25% saving - but if the product is different, then you can't compare them directly and any talk of discounts is meaningless. If you are going to be receiving a lesser product than the one available in the shops then the least they can do is state this clearly so that you can make an informed decision.

The subscription has saved me a lot of money on bird food and nest boxes over the years if nothing else. If you don't use the subscriber benefits or enter the subscriber-only competitions then perhaps subscribing isn't your best option but mine is a gift from a relative so it's win win for me.

I can save loads with the Subscribers Club discounts. https://www.gardenersworld.com/offers/subscriber-club-discount/ The Subscribers’ Edition of the printed magazine also has extra pages with all the Discount Codes and special offers for subscribers.
