Shrub to identify please

Hello
My mum has a few of these in her garden in Lincolnshire but doesn't know what they are. She said I can dig one up and take it to the frozen North (actually been the warmest part of the UK this week, but I digress). Can anyone identify it please, and might it like the short days and cold winters?




No longer newish but can't think of a new name so will remain forever newish.  B)

    Looks like a variegated hollyhock to me ...

    Do hollyhocks get such sturdy woody stems? The leaves look familiar to me but I can't dredge up a memory of what it might be

    I think that’s some sort of variegated Malva Sylvestris.

    Just googled that but again no sign of the thick stem in any pics. It could almost be a small tree, the stem/trunk is very sturdy - see the top picture in my post

    Just noticed the Woody base. Could be a Lavatera.

    If it helps, the flowers are quite small, especially given the size of the plant, only about 4cm across at most

    Take a look at Lavatera Arborea ‘Variegata’.

    Bingo! At least I think so, mum is less convinced, but then she's looking at her big plant book and I'm consulting Google images 😊
