I use a kind of Birkenstock-type sandal. Thick enough for digging; slip off design; mud doesn't stick.

Are clogs any good if you're digging or kneeling down (no flexibility)? I've tried a few but they all seem slippy. Maybe they're supposed to feel like that. I don't know.

My clogs are fine for kneeling down, weeding, nipping out into the garden to put the bins or washing out. I keep a pair near both the front and back doors for convenience.  I tend to use my thicker wellies in the winter and for serious digging. I did see Screwfix had some serious safety boots in ladies sizes down to a 4, but they are not featured in the recent leaflets - haven't checked the website yet.

Have kept my eye out but nothing in Lidl here. I am going down the ‘medical clog’ route, a brand called Sanita, look pretty sturdy soles with a bit of a heel so should be fine for light border digging and general jobs. They have versions in plastic and leather, have a sale on the leather upper ones, about €30, so might be more breathable than the plastic so might treat myself.
