Daffodil cutting back

Good morning,

I'm after some advice on cutting back my daffs. I've already dead headed them and I think in a week or so all the leaves will have turned yellow so time for them to be taken off.

What I'm having difficulty finding info on is do I cut back right to the ground leaving almost nothing or should I leave a little pertruding?

Any advice would be welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

When the leaves have died back enough they should pull off easily. Or you can cut them right down to the ground if you prefer.

I cut down, once they're totally finished, to the ground. many of mine have other plants in front of them, so I often leave them to their own devices too.
It won't make any real difference though - the foliage will disappear, or can be pulled away as Jenny says.  :)

I’m not expecting the foliage on my daffodils to turn dry and yellow for at least 6 weeks. Maybe you have earlier flowering ones which can be tidied up sooner.

  • @Picidae I may be wrong with the timings but they've started turning yellow / brown so estimating another two weeks.. not sure which variety they are but they were up fairly early.

It will also depend where you are in the country. I still have lots of snowdrop and crocus foliage that is green, but that's normal for here.
