Box Blight?

Hi folks,

I had thought the sorry state of the two (one more so) boxes guarding the front door was down to drying out but having addressed that and with seemingly deteriorating health I wonder if this might be box blight?

Difficult to tell really. Have you had any frosts lately or very high winds? I would try snipping out the dead bits carefully (disinfecting your secateurs afterwards (kitchen biological spray will do) and then wait and see if the brown bits come back. If you haven't already tried it, I would also give them some fertiliser as box plants are very greedy. You would probably also find that they may be potbound and need new topsoil, if not bigger pots.  They do look nice by the front door.

Thanks Lizzie. They’re actually in a very sheltered spot albeit in the north-east corner of the house. It does means it gets very little sunlight although they’ve been there 18 months or so and been fine up till recently. You might be right about being a little pot-bound. Something to consider and I will also try a feed. I did trim them a couple of weeks back and as yet there’s no obvious re-growth in those areas.
