Sambucus Nigra

Hi can anyone advise...I pruned my sambucus nigra in the attached photo. It seems to have lost its height and now resembles a small shrub. Is it likely to recover and grow tall again?
thanks

Yes - it'll grow fast now the warm weather is here.
You may not get flowers this year as they flower on the previous years growth, but it will grow quickly.
Once established, I cut out about 1/3 of the old stems each year to keep it looking good.
I also have to hack it back a bit in late summer.

We prune ours to the ground each year (otherwise we’d have to move house!) and they get back up to 6-8 feet by the end of the season.  We do sometimes leaves a few shoots so we get the flowers tho’....
