Dead or late starter

I bought this Pennistum grass late last summer looking lovely. It died back as expected over winter but shows no sighs of fresh growth. Has anyone any advice on whether its dead or are these just late to get started.

    @PoppyLawler, l can't see a photo,  but my pennisetum is always late to get going. Having said that, it is shooting now. Can you dig it up or tip it out if it's in a pot and have a look at the roots ? Alternatively try cutting a piece near the base and see if it is green inside.

    Pennisetum don't like wet cold so it may have turned up its toes.  However, I would wait till June before giving up.   If it has survived, try moving it to a sunny, well-drained site.

    I got 3 grasses in the garden unsure of which type growing in the garden last summer. The 2 in the sunny position are growing lovely the one in the shadier damp part of the garden rotted

    Posted photo again, I have taken it out of the pot. The roots seem ok or at least still there out winter was not too bad. I will try planting in a sunny spot and hope for the best. Thank you all for your advice.
