I have Amelanchier alnifolia ‘Obelisk’ in the garden. I was most impressed when I first saw it in the nursery 5 years ago. It grows with a columnar habit, which is exactly what I wanted for the spot where it is planted. It is now approx. 3 metres high and only about 1.5 metres wide. The flowering season is disappointingly short (2 weeks) and, unlike other cultivars, it starts flowering after the leaves have started appearing, which rather spoils the show. The berries are promptly eaten up by the birds, and the autumn foliage does not last long. In conclusion, I would not recommend this particular cultivar unless you definitely need a columnar habit. Here are some pics.
