👍🏼 Dove. Gosh it grows BIG.
  • Folks, I hate to admit defeat but think you're all right - it is a sycamore.

So, next question then ... Does anyone have any suggestions for what would grow nicely around that door frame? Novice-to-average gardener here, so nothing too clever. I can grow from a pot, or potentially install a planter box.

I was going to plant a passion fruit vine, but it doesn't seem like it will grow far enough.

Any chance of lifting a few flagstones on either side of those big doors ... you want quite a big plant ... preferably one each side to grow up and over ... and big plants have big roots and need a lot of water ... gallons every day in the summer ... I can’t think of anything big enough that will be happy in a container for very long ... but if you can plant into the ground you could have wonderful roses growing up and over framing the doorway with blooms all summer ...
