Whitebeam dying?

Established 3m high Whitebeam tree in my garden has been dropping leaves for about a month. Is it dying? What can I do?

Put a hosepipe on it for an hour or so, or water it as much as you can with the watering can. The leaves dropping means that it is under stress and it's probably because we've had a comparatively dry Spring.

That does not look like a Whitebeam to me. But a mature Photinia shrub/tree.

They should be evergreen and can drop leaves when not happy or due to exposed windy sites or extreme cold. Very sensitive to cold weather and can experience leaf droop for days following a cold spell.

It’s flowered, so you can start pruning back a bit to limit excess stress. Watering during dry/ hot spells will also help it too.
  • Many thanks - I’ll get the hosepipe on now.
