Not a sign of swelling buds yet ..........

Sorry it's a rubbish pic ... took it on my phone ... but you can see that it still looks like midwinter ...

The oak tree at the back of our house was in leaf very early this year, the earliest certainly in recent years. I quoted the old rhyme at OH at the time. He commented that it was probably more accurate than the BBC forecast. Their idea of a gentle breeze is more like a howling gale to me.
  • Seems to be the case everywhere - I was a bit worried in case it was an indication of 'die back'.

In addition to 'Wild Edges' reported maxim (which seems to exist nationwide with several minor variations) years ago I was quoted: "A cold wet and windy May the barns do fill with corn and hay" - which also hints that it will be a dry summer and fulsome harvest.  Sounds good to me.

Came across a small drove of hares playing silly buggers in our woodland yesterday.  Very chuffed because they had become quite rare in this part of Essex.

Our ash tree has a few green sprigs appearing ... 48 hours rain and today’s sunshine seems to have woken it up ... but there are also quite a few dead branches ... small ones ... a bit concerning ...

Very similar to mine. A few dead branches which definitely had leaves last year.

Ditto, and I'm on a damp soil.
