  • Managed a decent session today, got quite a bit done, so if ground freezes  for the next few days it won't matter.  My Dahlias are still green so haven't cut those down yet. If the frost is decent might be time to try some Parsnips,  and Sprouts.
I  went through the stored potatoes again, the 2nd earliest are still sprouting but luckily the late maincrop are mostly ok. If the predicted cold snap proves true, hopefully they will store better. I went through the Apples and Pears as well,  lots of rotten ones but still some worth keeping.
Need to have a fire but it's still too wet.

  • I have some potatoes growing in a barrel from 2 years ago. I will have a furtlel and see if I can find enough for a taste on Christmas Day.

Hello , have been on Holiday , went to allotment this morning , as I expected ground frozen solid
Did manage to get a cabbage and some broccoli
Dalias blackened by frost , cut 2 beds down , couldn’t mulch them as compost frozen solid , may have to buy some

  • I went to plots today too. Picked up sack of spuds from shed, hope they are OK. They are in a heavily insulated cupboard that I made at the back so hope they didn't freeze.  Garage is no good as the mice get into that. Picked a few sprouts just to try them. It's supposed to thaw by Monday Tues, hope so as I haven't dug any parsnips yet.  No chance today couldn't even find them under the snow, ground frozen anyway.

  • i am growing some tomatoes
  • Visited the plot this morning to pick curly kale for lunch everything was frozen hard and the kale was very limp but cooked up well and was delicious to eat.
  • I sloshed down the garden to the greenhouse to pick some kale to eat with my lamb shank for dinner. I have 2 plants I am cutting from in the greenhouse, as an experiment, and some more smaller plants following on, really need to be potted on. I managed to get the greenhouse door open after it had been frozen solid.

Went to allotment today , Harvested celeriac, parsnips ( not that big ) Jerusalem  artichokes and cabbage for Christmas
The leeks not that big but had been frozen 🥶 solid , now a bit soft , o/h blanched  them and put in freezer

Also finished cutting Dalias  and mulched the beds

Pruned a clematis and put for burning

  • I went to plots this morning harvested sprouts,  parsnips and beetroot.  As usual at this time of year it takes 3 times as long to scrub the mud off the parsnips as it does to dig them.  :D
