Plants for small pots

Making the most of my local garden centre's 80% off old stock pots so been busy buying a load of different sizes recently. Are there any plants in particular that do well in small pots like at the front here, around 7" diameter-



I'd say they're typically too small for most things unless just intending to immediately pot them on but they're too nice to just use as a temporary home.

    Ooooh, yes, I'd be interested in any replies here... I've a lovely plant theatre (aka etagere) that needs some good low-maintenance summer plants for smallish pots...

    Sempervivum house  leeks. Our local does them in sets of 4. Top dress with gravel or coloured glass, shells or whatever takes your fancy. They don't need a great depth of soil.

    The small dark leaved begonias would look good, blooms most of the summer until the first frosts and don't grow too big. Dianthus, diascia or nemesia perhaps.  Small hostas or ferns for shady places.

    Snowdrops in one, crocus in another, iris reticulata in the third.  Or crocus in all three, one yellow, one white, one purple.

    My favourite flowers,  pansies or violas, I’ve got some gorgeous pink ones or purple looks good with blue.

    Dianthus would work a treat as I have some in the border I want to dig up.

    I've got campanula (not sure exactly what type I'm afraid) doing well in small pots

    I was thinking alpines too @K67 as they should be ok in dry conditions over the summer.🙂

    Armeria Maritima, Lewsia Cotyledon/Longipelata, Saxifraga and Erigeron Karvinskianus will all do fine in small and shallow pots.

    Dug up the dianthus from the border tonight-



    There roots go deeper than I'd have expected.
