Hello I have been away from home for 2 months unexpectedly and come back find my Acer tree struggling - colour is not normal usually much more green, few branches have dried up completely (2nd photo), the leaves as well as looking far more pale also have patchy darker areas (3rd photo). I haven’t watered it due to not being here but usually it doesn’t need much extra until the weather heats up.. and the soil was not particularly wet or dry before giving it a good water. It does have powdery mildew which I do treat on and off with dilute milk but I don’t think that’s the cause of this current problem. Advice from anyone experienced with growing Acers would be very much appreciated. Please see pictures posted. Many thanks
From the top photo it does appear to be just one branch. If it shows no sign of ewcovery in the next month or so I would just cut it out. It may have been caught by a late frost otr a particularly drying wind. How long has it been in that pot? If more than a couple of years - and the pot does look quite small for the amount of top growth, I would repot it into a bigger pot using JI no. 3 and keep an eye on it if we have a very hot summer again.

Wind will do that, so will too much sun. Agree that it may need a bigger pot bit maybe use a John innes 3 and mix with ericaceous compost. Most of it looks healrhy
The Acers that i have like Acid Soil so a feed will help them to flower + produce leaves - also stay healthy. quite a bit more space eg garden or a very much larger container - they also like shade - sometimes you may want to prune this can be done before growth starts in spring, make sure that your saw or pruners are sharp + clean.
