Rambling Rose Veilchenblau
I have a Veilchenblau rambling rose which has been planted against a north facing fence. It has grown well and flowers beautifully. It has made its way to the top of the fence and grows along the top of it and over an adjacent arch. The problem I want to address is the plant is bare up to a height of several feet and looks ugly. Do I prune the rose right back to encourage new growth lower down and lose all the lovely top growth or should I plant a climbing plant in front of it to hide the bare branches and if so what should I plant? Please help!
