Container ideas for front door

I've spent the past 1.5 years getting into gardening and spending so much attention on the back garden that I've neglected the front of the house.

Scope is limited as I had the monoblock extended to cover the whole area so containers are the order of the day.

I've recently potted 2 box balls either side of the door, the corner spot to the right would be ripe for an arrangement I'd say.

Opinions welcome on arrangements and possible plants, area is exposed as the house is opposite a junction, not other houses. Faces East so gets morning sun only, less sun the closer it is to the house.

  • What about a couple of hanging baskets? My neighbour has a lovely metalwork Windows box which they put trailing plants in looks amazing

Can't quite see in the photo, is that a gravel strip under the window and if so, is there any difference in the levels?  Do you want just one big pot or three?

It's just dry monoblock. It's an old picture I had just after washing the car.

I was thinking of quite a few pots given there's bugger all else.

I would go for an arrangement of 3 different sized pots. Just thinking what to put in them now. Do you want something permanent - perhaps 2 pots with a permanent display and a third you can put spring, then summer bedding in?

Something like that sounds good although would it not still be a bit sparse?

Got plenty of space down the side of the wall for a few pots/containers-

I'm not sure about a line of pots down that wall, although you could go very contemporary with matching pots and plants. Alternatively if there's enough space, would you want to build (and maintain) a raised bed along the wall? Keeping lots of pots watered might be a pain throughout the summer. Is your preference for plain green or do you want something with flowers?

Creating a bed is a no go.

Watering pots doesn't bother me, my hose reaches round the front so it's not the hassle a watering can could be.

Just feel like the space is there to be occupied, even if it's along the front of the house instead of the wall. Could always have a couple of troughs and pots in the corner?

Create a scene in the corner with mixed pots from large to small. Bergenia 'Bressingham White' would light up the corner. Heucheras and Epimediums will add colour and form. Contrast leaf shape with Liriope Muscari and Houttuynia Cordata 'Chameleon'.

What about a mix of pots with all white flowers? Plus an all white hanging basket? I have done that before it was extremely effective.
