Not a heuchera fan, but that one ("Paris") I like!

  • I now have Heuchera envy - all mine have died!  I'm not sure if it is too dry for them.  They were planted in a bed with very fine top soil on a patio and I haven't worked out if they needed more water or if they haven't like our rather windy aspect.

Bought my first Heuchera last year the label said it Heuchera Ruby Bells and gets to a height of 50cm looks similar to amancalledgeorge in the picture that came with it. Love some of the others put up one here with their lovely foliage.

That Heuchera 'City' 'Paris' of yours is stunning, @amancalledgeorge !

    Some pics and a story...
A pic of my Heuchera 'Cherry Cola' taken today

Now the story. A few years ago I had a couple of fairly rare (on the market) H. 'mer de marbre' (see pics on my garden site here: http://www.rezeau.org/wp-garden/en/heuchera-mer-de-marbre-2/
Then I was left with only one, looking poorly, so put it in a pot and finally in the ground in a different, shadier spot. Last month, somewhere near the original plantation, I spotted what looked like a "new" heuchera. I put it in a pot and watched its development. It has quite plain green leaves, except at the base where there are traces of "marble". Now I wonder if what I've got is a totally new hybrid, based on the original 'mer de marbre', or a reversion to one of 'mer de marbre's parents (grand-parents?). Here are some pics (all taken today). Looking forward to you reactions.

    H. 'mer de marbre' in the foreground, new variety in its pink pot at the back, showing plain green leaves.
New specimen in its pink pot, with quite long flower stems (with leaves on them)
New specimen showing basal leaves somewhat different from the rest of the leaves.

    New specimen flowers.

That's a funny turn of events @Papi Jo don't know enough about the process how those complex hybrids get produced but really interesting what you got growing, the flower spikes look very similar to your marbled heuchera. Let's see if anyone more versed on how those random crosses/hybrids occur may let us know.

Actually it seems I was mistaken. This "unknown heuchera" might well be Tellima grandiflora, a plant which does look like a Heuchera but is a different species.

I love the “Paris” variety. My heucheras have never survived a year, normally. Vine  Weevils always get them. This year I have one surviving, fingers crossed. I will have to give up on them if they get killed off again. So frustrating. The one up the road goes on and on, taunting me with it’s beautiful pink flowers.
