Help! rose leaves dying

Hi

I have planted two roses in the last 12 months - one "The Pilgrim" and one "The Generous Gardener. Both climbers. Up until 10 days ago they were looking really healthy but now they've both got some badly damaged new growth (shown in the picture). Any idea what's happening and what do I need to do? This is in a well-sheltered sunny garden in the east of England.

Lack of water and/or a bit of wind burn would be my guess. We've had very little rain in the east and that early warm spell spurred my roses into early lush growth, some of which got damaged by frost and more recently some by wind. I've had to start watering my trees and borders.

Thanks Bob. I'll water them today. There was a very cold wind for most of last week (and the storm at the weekend too).

Just for info -these roses are now looking nice and healthy again and are about to flower

Thanks Fran. I'll post a pic in a week or so when they bloom...it's about to happen. The generous gardener and pilgrim are both in their first spring.

Totally agree with Bob. It sometimes makes you wonder how our plants manage to cope with our mixed, sometimes mad weather conditions. If the damaged parts become unsightly, simply snip them off.
