Hebe not thriving

I bought a hebe from a local county show 2 years ago. I planted it into the garden and I had lovely lilac flowers on it. Last year it didn't do well at all. I had very few leaves no flowers, lots of woody branches no new growth. Again this year I can't see any new growth, if still looks very sorry for itself. It is still alive, as it is still green, just not looking very bushy and thriving. What am I doing wrong. I give it a good water once a week. It's in very free draining soil. Any advise welcome

Have you tried giving him a feed with fertiliser ?

I have read that hebes dont like being fed? So haven't given it anything this year so far. I fed it with a tom feed last year which did nothing to help. My MIL has suggested it could be too cold. So I will be moving it tomorrow to a more sheltered space, and wrapping it at night until it warms up to see if this might help it jump start into life.

If possible, can you post a photo of your Hebe? There many Hebes and some do better than others in some shade whilst others may not do so well. You are right, in general, they don't need much feeding. Free draining soils will do them fine.

Try to grow them in more sun than shade and give them a light prune at least once a year to encourage fresh new growth. Some Hebes are not very hardy, so if you are based somewhere that gets very cold, they may not put on much growth. Is it in a pot? If so, grow them in a loam-based pot with added grit.
