  One shrub may be a little leaf lilac. I think there is one with narrow leaves. Does it smell nice?

  Golden one could be a golden abelia.

  It reminded my of Lemon Verbena (Aloysia) I used to have which has very pungen lemon scented leaves.
  But that didn't even come into leaf until May time and then I'd get just a few flowers mid-summer.

  Got me scratching my head this one...
  It definitely looks lilac-like, but the leaves don’t seem right for a lilac. Is it a perennial that dies right back or does it remain as a shrub then flower? 
  
  I must confess, I share wildedges humour, as your title made me chuckle. 

  My garden and I live in South Wales.

  Hi Auntyrach, thanks for trying to solve this for me, but no it isn’t a perennial, it’s a proper shrub that just gets trimmed down a bit each year. I can’t find it anywhere.
