    @matt_fender - thanks so much for taking the time to reply and I'll take on board your tips on what species to avoid. I think we are definitely going to go for it as I've always wanted some mixed native hedging. I don't think the neighbours on either side like hedges, which is why we're thinking of putting the fence up - as well as making it more secure for our dog. Definitely an expensive way to do it but we don't want to cause any issues with them. I suppose they're still going to get some growth, but they've got large conifers there now so hopefully it might be an improvement at least.
